emergency-lightsA San Benito man was arrested on Monday, May 30 after he was accused of indecency with a child.

Fifty-five year-old Gumesindo Galvan was arrested by deputies with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department after a 15-year-old girl reported being touched by the man in an inappropriate manner, allegations in which he’s reportedly accused of committing since the child was in fifth grade.

“The young girl told her mother that (Gumesindo Galvan) touched her breasts and kissed her on the mouth,” said Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio. “The young girl said that she did not remember how many times it had happened.”

According to the sheriff, the victim’s younger sister also made claims accusing Galvan of trying to kiss her and making her sit on his lap. Both of the girls were interviewed at Maggie’s House.

“Probably the last time that he did that to the girl was on April 29 of this year,” said Lucio. “She didn’t report it to us until later on. First she reported it to Child Protective Services on Friday, May 13.”

Galvan was arraigned on Tuesday morning by Judge Patricia Edelstein. His bond was set at $35,000; he is currently not listed as an inmate at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, this according to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department inmate list website.
