A San Benito man was arrested on Tuesday after marijuana was discovered at his home on Hidalgo Street.
Thirty-two year-old Casimiro Arriago was arrested by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department and charged with possession of marijuana.
“Apparently our SIU (Special Investigation Unit) had received information regarding that particular location, 419 Hidalgo St. in San Benito,” said Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio of Arriago’s residence. “They gave us the information that it contained narcotics.”
The sheriff said that an officer arrived at the location for further investigation and was given consent to search the house. Investigators then allegedly discovered 63 pounds of marijuana, and Arriago was reportedly arrested.
According to Lucio, the marijuana is valued at approximately $900 per pound, which would make the total value of the drugs found on Tuesday about $64,800.
Arriago was arraigned on Wednesday morning by Judge Patricia Edelstein. He received a $20,000 bond and remains incarcerated at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
