The search for an attorney to represent the City of San Benito may come to an end Tuesday, May 24 as the San Benito City Commission is scheduled to discuss and possibly take such action at a special meeting.
It was since late 2010 when the city initially sought RFQ’s (Request for Qualifications) for city attorney, services currently provided by Jan Cassidy.
At the March 3 City Commission meeting, the list of applicants was reduced from six to four, and no further action has since been taken in determining who will be the next city attorney.
“We’ve had those RFQs since December, and the mayor and commissioners have just sat on them,” said City Manager Manuel Lara of members of the commission and former Mayor Jack Garcia. “They haven’t done anything with them, and I don’t have any idea as to when they’re going to bring it back as an action item.”
Lara said that after the newly elected officials came into office, he would discuss with them to see if they would like to bring up the status of the city attorney RFQ’s as an agenda item.
