The fourth time is just as sweet as the first for the San Benito Lady ’Hounds.
On Saturday the Lady ’Hounds swept the Edinburg North Lady Cougars with a score of 9-3. Their victory led them to their fourth trip to the Sweet 16 of the state softball playoffs.
The Lady ’Hounds are now looking forward to facing San Antonio Southwest this Friday as they travel to Corpus Christi to battle San Antonio at Cabaniss Field, for a chance at making it to the Elite Eight. Advancement to the Elite Eight will be the first time in Lady ’Hound softball history.
The San Antonio Southwest Lady Dragons are seeking to redeem themselves against the Lady ’Hounds, who forced the Lady Dragons to exit last year’s playoff season early.
“We beat them last year. It was a great series, they’re a tough team and we expect no less this year,” said Lady ’Hounds Head Coach Elias Martinez, who has been to the Sweet 16 with the Lady ’Hounds in all previous tries.
Game one is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the best of three series will carry on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. If a game three is necessary it will be played thirty minutes following game two.
