OLMITO – Three detention guards are now on the other side of the bars after allegedly assaulting an inmate at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
Twenty–year-old Pedro Gomez, 22-year-old Benjamin William Taliancich, and 28-year-old Mario Alberto Garcia, Jr., all of Brownsville, were arraigned Thursday morning due to charges stemming from an incident which occurred on April 29 of this year.
“This has to do with abusive official capacity, official oppression, and assault, and all of them are class A misdemeanors,” said Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio. “Class A misdemeanors mean that you can be sentenced to county jail for up to two years. You can also be fined up to $4,000.”
According to Lucio, on the said date, the Sheriff’s Department was advised of a possible assault on one of the detainees at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
