A New York man was arrested here Monday evening after he allegedly threw a wooden stick at a San Benito police officer.
According to a press release from the SBPD, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Business 77 and Stookey Road Monday at 6:21 p.m. for a possible intoxicated subject. When officers arrived they noticed a male sitting down in a field bordered by a canal. When police attempted to make contact with the man, later identified as 39-year old Brian Joseph Green of Niagra Falls, New York, he allegedly grabbed a wooded object from the floor and rested it on his shoulders, as if attempting to use it as a weapon. A San Benito police officer then drew his weapon and repeated commands for Green to place the object on the ground and that’s when he threw the wooden object at the officer’s head, but missed, the press release stated. Green was arrested for attempted aggravated assault on a peace officer and his bond was set at $15,000 by Judge Benjamin Yudesis. When asked what he was doing down here in San Benito, police say Green told them he came down here because the police in New York were “messing with him.” He was transported to Cameron County Detention Center, where he still is currently.
