A non-fatal, officer-involved shooting occurred this morning around 2:00 a.m. on the 2500 block of Chuparosa Court in Harlingen after witnesses say a man tried to run over a police officer.
According to Harlingen resident Travis Mims, who shot a video of the aftermath of the shooting, police told him the man, (Identified in the video as Frank Sanchez), tried to run over an officer just a few blocks away, at another crime scene.
“They told me that he tried to run over one of the officers and that’s why they opened fire,” said Mims, who lives at the Pura Vida apartments, near where the event unfolded. “I was up playing a video game when I heard the shots and at first I thought the shots were part of the game, until I heard the commotion outside and that’s when I went and got my video camera. The entrance wound looked like he got shot in the face and then it came out his neck,” he added.
Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation.
