A day that is usually a cause for celebration for high school teenagers turned into tragedy Friday as an early morning accident claimed the life of at least one teenage woman from Lyford.
According to police, two Lyford high school students were on their way to a pep rally in the morning when they were T-boned by an 18-wheeler, after they allegedly ran a stop sign.
It was reported that the two girls were dropping off a family member and then on the way to a pep rally, which was being held at a McDonalds off of Edcarey in Harlingen.
The impact was so tragic, it sent the vehicle a good 500 feet from the original spot of the collission, killing 18-year old Vanessa Mendoza of Lyford.
