After going 75 months with an unemployment rate of over 6.0%, San Benito seems to finally be heading in the right direction economically. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the months of March, April, and May saw the lowest unemployment rate in San Benito in seven years. After falling to a low of 5.6% in March, however, the unemployment rate made a jump back up to 5.7% for April and 5.9% for May. Still, it is a marked improvement from the 8.3% average rate of unemployment over the last decade. The preliminary results for the month of June have the unemployment rate at 6.6%.
