A San Benito man wanted for sexual assault, assault impeding breath, and unlawful restraint is currently at large after failing to turn himself in, police said. Robert Molish, 45, has been issued three separate arrest warrants by Judge Lupe Ayala.
According to Ayala, Molish had agreed to turn himself in to authorities on Tuesday morning but never showed up. “After he didn’t show up we had no choice but to issue those arrest warrants,” said Ayala.
San Benito Assistant Chief of Police Michael Galvan noted that the police department is now actively searching for the alleged criminal. “We wanted to give him every opportunity to come in and clear it up… he’s actually the one that called us and said he wanted to come in and deny the charges,” said Galvan. “He failed to show up so now it’s up to us to go find him. We’ve canvased all his known hangouts, talked to all his associates, notified the border crossings… we will find him,” added Galvan.
All three charges Molish faces are felonies and while local searches have turned up nothing, Galvan explained that attempting to cross the border for protection wouldn’t do Molish any good. “For charges like this, most of the time Mexico will just bring them right across the border to us,” said Galvan. “As long as there’s not any kind of death penalty, Mexico will usually just give them right back to us.”
Galvan also added that help from the community is crucial in cases like this. Molish is listed at 6’4 and 270 pounds with brown eyes and grey hair. Anybody with information on his possible whereabouts of are urged to call the SBPD at 956-361-3880 or 956-564-2135.
