RIO HONDO, TX—Noe Alaniz Jr., a San Benito municipal judge, seasoned attorney, and community leader, announced last week his candidacy for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Place 1 in Cameron County.

He is running to succeed longtime incumbent Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, who is not seeking re-election.

“With deep roots in the Rio Grande Valley and a track record of impartiality, professionalism, and compassion, Alaniz is committed to making the JP court more accessible, efficient, and reflective of the precinct’s diverse needs,” reads a press release authored by Alaniz’s team.

“I have spent my career serving our community with fairness, respect, and genuine care,” Alaniz said. “As your Justice of the Peace, I will ensure every resident—regardless of background—receives prompt, equitable justice that upholds our shared values and strengthens our neighborhoods.”

A native of Cameron County and a 2001 graduate of Rio Hondo High School, Alaniz brings qualifications to the role, including his current position as Municipal Court Judge for the City of San Benito (since 2021), where he’s known for presiding with integrity and efficiency.

He’s also the founder and lead attorney of Alaniz Law Firm, PLLC, in San Benito, with 15 years in private practice handling family, criminal, civil, personal injury, real estate, and estate matters.

He’s a former Assistant District Attorney in the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office (2009–2011).

He was also a ten-year member of the Rio Hondo Independent School District Board of Trustees (2010–2020), where he advocated for education and youth.

Alaniz also holds an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, plus a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law (2008). He’s licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 2009.

“As a local judge, small business owner, and family man right here in the community, I know the importance of face-to-face service, building trust, and delivering justice that truly represents who we are,” Alaniz added. “I’m eager to connect with voters throughout Precinct 3, listen to their concerns, and earn their confidence.”

Alaniz and his wife, Salina, are raising four children—Colby Jade, Paisly Nicole, Tessaly Reign, and Noe Alaniz III—in the Rio Grande Valley.

He is the son of Noe Alaniz Sr. and Sylvia Alfaro Alaniz, and brother to Miguel Nicolas Alaniz and Jose Antonio Alaniz.

The Democratic Primary Election is set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with early voting from February 17 through February 27, 2026.
