Educational leaders at IDEA Public Schools are preparing for the Texas Principal Certification through Region One ESC’s Principal Alternative Certification Program, enabled by a new partnership between the two organizations.
This partnership creates a customized pathway for IDEA administrators, who are already serving in campus and district leadership roles, to expand their professional credentials and strengthen their impact. The program provides comprehensive preparation for the state’s Principal as Instructional Leader exam and the Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL).
The IDEA cohort will have a customized program schedule that fits their existing professional responsibilities. Participants will meet two to three times a month for in-person classes over 18 months. By adjusting the delivery model, Region One ESC makes sure these leaders get high-quality preparation while continuing to serve their schools and communities.
“At IDEA, we are deeply committed to growing leaders from within and ensuring they have the tools and training necessary to drive student success,” said Jill Dominguez, Area Superintendent at IDEA Public Schools. “Through this partnership with Region One ESC, our campus and district leaders will not only strengthen their instructional leadership skills but also earn the state certification that further equips them to make an even greater impact on the students and communities we serve.”
Region One ESC’s Principal Alternative Certification program trains educational leaders for advanced roles as campus and district administrators through its TEA-aligned curriculum, mentorship, coaching, and thorough exam prep. It is purposefully structured to match the Texas Principal Standards, ensuring candidates gain the knowledge and skills needed for effective school leadership.
By collaborating with IDEA Public Schools, which has a campus in San Benito, Region One ESC is supporting an established leadership development framework with the opportunity to earn state certification.
“This partnership ensures that IDEA leaders receive the preparation and support needed to earn state certification while continuing to make an impact on their schools,” said Marissa Falcon, Region One ESC Administrator for Educator Preparation & Development. “Together, we are further developing the skills of IDEA leaders, which will directly benefit students and communities.”
After completing the program, cohort members will be eligible to take their state exams and advance in earning their principal certification. Learn more about Region One ESC’s principal alternative certification program at www.esc1.net/principalcert.
