The Pct. 3 Cameron County Constable Office is welcoming families to a Halloween Trick-or-Treat celebration on Thursday, October 16, at the Cameron County Annex Building, 1390 West Expressway 83, San Benito. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will feature candy, fun, and family-friendly entertainment.
“This is our seventh time hosting this great event,” said Pct. 3 Constable Adrian Gonzalez. “First of all, our event is hosted in a controlled environment with over 30 officers making sure that the children of our community are safe. We will have face painting for the kids, a costume contest, and all community partners will be giving out candy. Live DJ music and other family-friendly entertainment will also be provided.”
The initiative started as a way to keep children safe during Halloween, the constable said.
“We began this event because we wanted our kids to be protected while trick-or-treating. We didn’t want kids going door to door through neighborhoods in the dark, crossing streets dangerously between cars, and risking injury,” Gonzalez said.
The event also aims to strengthen community ties. “We also wanted to get to meet the people we serve and build a better community by doing so,” he said.
Gonzalez, who took office in January 2017, said his Constable’s Office believes in community-based law enforcement. “I’ve always believed in community-based law enforcement and wanted to create events that would actively engage our constituents. I’ve always believed that by getting to know those that we serve, we can make a difference.”
Families interested in attending or participating can contact the Pct. 3 Constable’s Office at 956-361-8228.
