Moments in Time is a collection of recovered newspaper briefs and other publications, compiled by local historian, Steve Hathcock, offering a look back at the history of the Rio Grande Valley. Hathcock is a local historian who has spent many years collecting and sharing the history of the Rio Grande Valley, as well as treasure hunting and formerly owning an Island-based bookstore.

Magic Valley
According to Isadore Moritz Staff correspondent for the Rio Grande Valley Weekly, 700 “Magic” tourists keep pouring into this “Magic Valley” each week. This is not an estimate but an actual count, he states. This statement will undoubtedly be an eye-opener to most Valley residents as to what to expect when the winter tourist season opens, this fall.

August begins a season when most tourists see climate changes in their parts of world and when 700 tourists and northern parties decide to brave the southern sun of August to see the Valley, a tremendous demand from the wintry blasts and seek the land of perpetual sunshine.
Good roads are doing much to attract tourists, but the local climate and the fame of this part of country is the greatest factor. Each year, winter tourists to the Valley spread winter news and each year other scores come to spend winter here. But the Valley this winter will probably have inadequate facilities for the tourists expected.

City Mail Delivery
San Benito, Texas.—San Benito hopes to secure the free delivery in a short time, according to reports given out following a visit recently of the special post office inspector. Granting of city delivery to San Benito has been held up for several years due to delay in walks numbering houses, extending street sidewalks, providing boxes, according to the inspector. Now, however, it is likely the city delivery will be granted in a short time.
