It is my hope that after several months of following this series we have begun to see that God wants to turn our place of failure into a place of faith. The previous 12-part series of “When God Calls” has transitioned to “Where God Leads.” It is an ongoing revelation from the Word of God demonstrating how God wants to restore us to His original, divine plan and purpose after failure. We have also seen how part of that process is correction and discipline in the re-training program of God. It is required. It is inevitable.

There is no escape. Christians and the church have learned to flee difficult moments and seasons of correction in life by changing jobs, changing churches, changing schools, changing relationships – in essence taking things into “their own hands.” That is exactly what Moses did.

It took God 40 years to restore Moses. It also took 40 years to change the climate in Egypt so that the leadership and the people would be prepared to receive Moses and the message God had given him. Sometimes we want the circumstances and the consequences of our poor choices to go away or be changed in one day. We are losing our ability to endure and we do not want to be corrected in anything by anyone.

“But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go.” (Exodus 3:19-20 NKJV)

God was sending Moses back into Egypt to deliver the nation of Israel. God was going to do it by a mighty hand using signs and wonders that had never been seen on the earth before that point. They would never be seen in that fashion again. God needed Moses to be unmoved when His power was put on display before the nation of Egypt. It was the process of correction and discipline that would make Moses what God had intended for him to be.

If you are a parent, teacher, coach, clergy, manager, CEO, president, or vice president you know that training is everything and everything is training. You prevent, prepare, solve, and resolve every area and attitude through training. Sometimes that training or re-training comes in the form of discipline or correction. As a former professional soldier there was no way to accomplish the end result without constant training and re-training as necessary. Correction, discipline, and feedback are also part of the process. It is not just a concept of encouragement. It most assuredly is not flattery, which is deception. Not only does God need to address our weakness, we desperately need to allow him to do so.

God let Moses know in advance, “…I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all of My wonders which I will do in its midst.” It wasn’t going to be some feel good “Come to Jesus” meeting! It was going to be God letting Pharaoh and the nation of Egypt know “I am God and you are not! The gods that you serve are no gods at all!” God needed Moses to be stable and strong in the face of what God had planned. Moses could not have done that in the previous state of mind when he was in Egypt. The 40-year discipline and correction process took Egypt out of Moses. Now he was ready to meet God face to face and receive his assignment in all of its fullness.

Are you in a place where the Spirit of God is trying to discipline and correct weakness in your life? If so, do not despise it. “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction; For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.” (Proverbs 3:11-12 NKJV)

God corrects you because He delights in you. He wants you ready for the full revelation of His plans and purposes for your life. Do not turn away from it. It is where God leads.
