RIO HONDO, TX—Mike’s Supermarket, a long-standing cornerstone of the “Deep River” community, announced last week that it is now under new management.
The new leadership team, led by Muhammad Ali noted that it is committed to enhancing the customer shopping experience while maintaining the small-town warmth and personal service that customers have come to love from Mike’s Supermarket for generations now.
“We’re excited to continue the tradition of being more than just a grocery store — we’re a place where neighbors meet, share stories, and look out for each other,” said Ali. “Our goal is to offer fresher products, more variety, and even better service at lower prices, while keeping that hometown feel.”
In a statement published on social media and the City of Rio Hondo’s electronic newsletter, Ali noted that under the new management, customers can expect: expanded fresh produce selection – bringing in more locally grown fruits and vegetables, updated product variety, adding new brands while keeping the favorites the community loves, enhanced community focus – developing partnerships with local farmers, bakers, and artisans to feature homegrown goods, and more customer-friendly changes – lower prices, improved store layout, and a more substantial commitment to listening to customer feedback.
For 80 years, reads the press release, Mike’s Supermarket has been a trusted source for groceries and essentials in Rio Hondo. Now under new leadership, the store is focused on blending small-town charm with modern convenience, ensuring every customer feels like family.
“Already looks way better than it was. Looks like the new owner is putting some much-needed money into the business,” wrote Rio Hondo resident Zeke Hernandez on Facebook.
Gloria Hernandez responded with a graphic reading, “Super!” While Brandy Tamez asked, “I haven’t gone to check it out, but I’m excited. I wonder if they’ll bring WIC back.” “I remember I saw a sign at checkout that said they were working on getting that,” responded Heather Ramos.
