The city’s streets are buzzing with activity as infrastructure improvements continue to reshape San Benito, drawing cheers from residents who are witnessing tangible progress.
That was the message San Benito Mayor Pro Tem Pedro Galvan, PharmD, recently shared on an update on the city’s ongoing efforts, sparking enthusiasm among locals. “Let’s keep our momentum going as we build a San Benito that’s safer, stronger, and ready for the future,” Galvan urged, galvanizing the community in a video essay shared on a City-run social media page.
The San Benito Public Works Department has been tirelessly upgrading the city’s backbone, Galvan noted.
Crews have meticulously repaired 37 manholes and cleared 177 sewer backups, ensuring the system runs smoothly. A cleverly refurbished vacuum excavator, saving taxpayers a hefty $300,000, now keeps storm drains clear across town.
“Keep working on streets & infrastructure. We can see the progress!” exclaimed one resident on Facebook, their double thumbs-up emojis echoing the community’s excitement.
Neighborhood cleanups are leaving a striking mark, with an average of eight tons of debris hauled away per event. These efforts prevent clogs in drainage systems and keep roads pristine, enhancing both safety and curb appeal.
Meanwhile, a new generator stands as a vital safeguard. “This is an extremely crucial investment that keeps wastewater pumping even during power outages, helping prevent sewer overflows and, importantly, protecting public health,” Galvan noted.
Street improvements are transforming daily life. Fresh pavement overlays on Miguel Drive and Railroad Avenue offer smoother rides, while new parking at Kennedy Park and upgraded curbs on Alamo, Rio Grande, and Ewano streets boost convenience.
Major roads, such as East Stenger, Robertson, and Sam Houston, gleam after regular sweeping and brush clearing. “Improvements that boost safety and convenience across town,” Galvan said, praising the dedicated crews behind the progress.
Residents are taking notice. “Great message, Commissioner Galvan! Thank you for your service to the City of San Benito,” another Facebook user wrote, reflecting the community’s gratitude. The city’s focus on street paving, backed by public support, has fueled this wave of upgrades. “On behalf of the city of San Benito and the city commission, we want to thank our community for allowing us to prioritize our street paving program,” Galvan added.
