Due to recent rain, the annual ResacaFest has been relocated back to the Heavin Trail, officials from the City of San Benito announced on Wednesday.
After last year’s rescheduling due to inclement weather, ResacaFest was initially scheduled to return to a new location this year.
The annual summer celebration, promoted as one of the city’s most exciting events of the year, was to take place on Saturday, July 5, at the San Benito Fairgrounds. The venue change marked a shift from its longtime home at Heavin Memorial Park, allowing for a larger footprint, expanded parking, and more room for vendors, music, and families, city officials noted.
This year’s event brings more than fireworks and food. The San Benito Fire Department is taking center stage early in the evening with a barbecue rib-eating contest that doubles as a fundraiser.
The contest is open to the public with a $100 entry fee and will help raise money for the department’s Fire Prevention Open House in October. Proceeds will be used to distribute smoke detectors and promote fire safety in the community.
A grand prize will be awarded, and sponsorships are available.
Resaca Fest will run from 3-11 p.m. Admission is free.
Live music will be a mainstay throughout the night, with performances by Cardenales de Nuevo León, Los Bravados del Norte, and Grupo Textura. A classic car show, local vendors, games, cold drinks, and family-friendly activities are also scheduled. The night will close with a fireworks display.
The festival was canceled last year due to the expected impact of Hurricane Beryl. Organizers say the 2025 return, along with the new location, reflects the city’s commitment to growing the event and offering a safe and festive experience for residents and visitors alike.
