The San Benito Cultural Arts Department (CAD) is extending a warm invitation to residents and visitors to experience a vibrant blend of history, culture, and creativity at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. Located at 250 E. Heywood St.

This welcoming hub is set to strengthen community bonds with a charming lineup of events for the 2025-2026 season, shared with quiet excitement in the department’s newsletter published last week.

The season began on June 21 with a friendly “956 Pa’ Todos” creative workshop from 1 to 3 p.m., hosted by the spirited RUDO collective (see full story in this edition of the NEWS). Focused on Rio Grande Valley narratives, it’s sure to inspire participants to share their own stories.

On June 28, a cozy “Platica Merienda” author talk is planned from 2 to 4 p.m., featuring local writer Max Tyrone Lozano alongside Beyond Borders Books. Lozano’s heartfelt poetry, spotlighting life along the southern Texas-Mexico border, has graced Gallery, Rigorous, and samfiftyfour, promising a touching afternoon.

Art enthusiasts are invited to opening receptions, starting July 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for “Markers of Memory: Tracing the Soul of South Texas,” an exhibit that captures the region’s spirit.

On July 17, the Rio Bravo Arte group exhibition will open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the San Benito Cultural Center, showcasing local talent. The year wraps up on December 4 with the biennial Castilian Roses group exhibition from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by the Artist Jubilee on December 6, featuring artist demos and a lively art market from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Dedicated to enriching lives through art, music, and history, the Cultural Arts Department is quietly preparing more solo and group exhibitions. “Hey, Cultura Familia! It’s been a minute, but we’ve been hard at work,” the department noted fondly in its newsletter, teasing more events to come.
