BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS—On March 24, 2025, Border Patrol agents were called to assist the Brownsville Police Department (BPD) in attempting to locate a vehicle involved in an officer shooting.

Agents in the area located and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description a short time later. According to a press release issued by the US Border Patrol, agents determined that the driver of the vehicle was not the suspect in the shooting, but that the male subject had an active arrest warrant for sexual assault of a child out of San Benito.

The yet-to-be-identified driver was taken into custody and turned over to the San Benito Police Department (SBPD), according to the press release.

“I applaud the efforts of our agents for their vigilance in assisting our local partner law enforcement agencies. We will not hesitate to help in ensuring that these dangerous individuals are brought to justice whenever they are encountered,” said U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.

According to the statement, CBP is America’s frontline: the nation’s largest law enforcement organization and the world’s first unified border management agency.

The 65,000+ men and women of CBP protect America on the ground, in the air, and on the seas. The CBP facilitates safe, lawful travel and trade and ensure our country’s economic prosperity, reads the press release. The CBP also enhances the nation’s security through innovation, intelligence, collaboration, and trust, the statement concludes.
