RIO HONDO, TX—The City of Rio Hondo invites all interested parties to sign up for its annual Christmas parade, slated for Saturday, Dec. 21. This year’s parade theme is Christmas carols.
Parade lineup will be at 4 p.m. the day of the parade. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Dollar General and will travel to City Hall. Cash prizes for the first three places are $300, $150 and $75.
Participants are encouraged to follow the event rules, which include staying in their assigned place and not riding in vehicles with tailgates open. Those riding on a float must stay in the float during the parade. No candies, pamphlets or other objects may be thrown from the floats or distributed along the route.
According to the City, music must be kept at a “reasonable level,” ensuring one does not drown out the other participants. Performances must not stop the flow of the parade, and each participant must be 50 feet apart. The float design must not obscure the driver’s front and side vision, and it cannot have sharp edges or protruding rails.
Interested parties can register a float, vehicle, marching group, walking group or any other attraction. They must provide a brief description of their attraction and submit it to the City of Rio Hondo.
Applications can be submitted to City Hall, faxed to (956) 748-4394 or emailed to AADMIN@RIOHONDO.US. Those who register automatically sign an agreement to comply with the rules and regulations, and “indemnify and hold harmless” the City of Rio Hondo and its workers from “all and any claims or causes” related to the parade.
