The San Benito Consolidated Independent School District [SBCISD] is set to enforce parking rules for the 2024 Greyhound home season for their VIP parking area at Bobby Morrow Stadium.
According to a post on the district’s official Facebook page, VIP parking requires a permit to enter. The post stated that the permit is a “strict requirement” for entry and “no exceptions” will be made. Permits are $40 each, cash-only. There are five home games this season. This has been a continued policy for previous years, according to the post.
Administration and employees of the district must also acquire a permit. Permits are limited, reads the post.
The announcement also said that volunteers for the tailgate celebrations need a parking pass. These passes will be handled by the superintendent’s office, which can be reached by calling (956) 361-6100.
According to the district’s Director of Public Relations, Luis D. Gonzales, Jr, Disabled Parking is located within the VIP section but it is not the only section for disabled guests, explaining that there is another section right outside the ticket booth for disabled visitors.
The district is required to offer disabled parking under the Texas Transportation Code, chapter 681: “The department shall provide for the issuance of a disabled parking placard to a person with a disability.”
According to the Northeast ADA Center, a site explaining the Americans with Disabilities Act [ADA], businesses can charge for disabled parking if they charge for regular parking as well. However, establishments are not allowed to charge more than the regular parking rate.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive at the parking lot early. Gates open at 6 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. The VIP section is located behind the home side bleachers of Bobby Morrow Stadium.
The permits are obtainable through the SBCISD Athletic Complex at San Benito High School. Those interested must contact Alma Gonzalez, the Athletic Department secretary, at (956) 361-6587.
