RIO HONDO, TX—A local teen succumbed to injuries sustained in a deadly crash over the holiday weekend.
The Texas Department of Public Safety [DPS] confirmed this past weekend that the deadly car accident occurred in Rio Hondo.
The accident occurred on Aug. 30, at approximately 8:30 p.m. at North Sam Houston Boulevard. According to DPS, a black Dodge Caravan was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a silver Toyota Corolla.
Eighteen-year-old Jose Juan Mendoza, a Rio Hondo citizen, was driving the black Dodge. The Silver Toyota held two passengers. Mendoza was taken to Valley Baptist Hospital and passed from his injuries, according to the DPS. The Toyota passengers survived the crash.
The release revealed an “open container” was located in the front cargo area of the Toyota. The case is currently still under investigation, according to DPS.
