Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on charges of family violence.
According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at around 10 p.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on the 25000 block of Avenida Margaret in the San Benito area regarding an alleged assault.
Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies made contact with a 29-year-old female reported to be the victim in this investigation. The reported victim said she was consuming alcoholic beverages with her common law husband, identified as 30-year-old Jose Hernandez, while watching a football game on the television.
The female told sheriff’s deputies that Hernandez became upset after he brought up the victim’s previous relationships. The victim then alleged that Hernandez struck her on the left side of her face and grabbing her around the neck area.
According to the sheriff’s office report, the victim reported that she did not lose circulation or the ability to breathe but Hernandez’s actions frightened her.
The victim further reported that Hernandez allegedly struck the area of her face multiple times with a closed fist. Sheriff’s deputies reported that they observed injuries on the victim’s face which included a large bump on her forehead, indicative of an assault, reads the CCSO’s report regarding the incident.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Hernandez and transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Hernandez is charged with the offense of Assault F/V TPC 22.01, a Class “A” Misdemeanor.
