Woman says ex choked her

Cameron County Sherriff’s Deputies are reporting that on Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m. deputies responded to a residence on the 32000 block of Bent Tree in San Benito, regarding a disturbance.

According to a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) report, upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with a 24-year-old female who reported that her ex-spouse, identified as Christian Ruiz, allegedly assaulted her.

According to the CCSO, the victim told deputies that she was leaving the residence when Ruiz became upset and allegedly threw a baby stroller at her.

The reported victim accused Ruiz of grabbing her with both hands around the throat for about 30 seconds, causing her to gasp for air. She also report dizziness. Sheriff’s Deputies observed redness on the throat area of the victim consistent with signs of strangulation, the CCSO report read.

Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with Ruiz but he allegedly became belligerent and non-compliant.
