The Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum (TCMHFM), located at 402 W. Robertson St., San Benito (the Aztec building), is hosting Reels at the Museum, a special private screening of the docudrama entitled, “Conquista” from 8-10 p.m. on November 16, 2023.

While Resaca City residents and passers through may not now know his name, they may know his work, as artist Uriel Landeros, professionally know as Conquista, along with partner and fellow artist Alex Andro, known as Pop Culture, have done work in San Benito. Most recently, the duo worked through the night in late October to complete their latest masterpiece depicting fallen San Benito Police Lt. Milton Resendez.

The piece is affixed on the wall of the San Benito Public Library facing Sam Houston Blvd., blocks from where the shooting that claimed Resendez’s life took place earlier in October.

Landeros said that the gesture was the least they could do for Resendez and his family after Resendez helped secure the area on Robertson Street where and when the duo worked on their first mural in the city of local notables when the TCMHFM first opened its doors at the Aztec building.

A Valley resident attending Idea Public Schools, Landeros and Andro began gaining notoriety with their piece depicting US Army Soldier Vanessa Guillén who was brutally murdered while on base at Fort Hood in San Antonio back in 2020.

Landeros describes himself as an artist, activist, painter, muralist, photographer, social sculptor and lifestylist. Conquista grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and draws much of his strength from integration of two cultures living side by side along an international boundary, he said. His work is associated with graffiti counterculture but touches on Imperialism, Colonialism, Capitalism and freedom through his signature use of gold and gold paint mixtures.
