Local law enforcement and San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) officials responded to an alleged threat made against a campus on social media late last week.

According to a statement issued to the media last Thursday evening (Aug. 17, 2023) by SBCISD Director of Communications Isabel C. González, district administrators notified the SBCISD community — which includes the public and parents — of the threat on the district’s social media platforms as well as altering parents directly.

“San Benito High School parents/guardians,” the statement which was posted on the district’s social media page read, “The safety and security of our students and staff will always be a top priority for San Benito High School and for our school district. We will continue taking every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community.”

As indicated above, the threat, which was not specified by district officials, was made against the high school.

“Campus and District administrators worked collaboratively with the San Benito CISD Police Department in response to a threatening message having been posted/shared on social media today. This evening, District police officers addressed the situation accordingly, and a student was detained,” the statement continued to read.

“As a precautionary measure, there will be extra police presence at and around San Benito High School tomorrow – Friday, August 18.” The statement then signs off San Benito High School Principal Manuela Lopez and Campus Administrators signed off on the statement.

This district later issued a follow-up statement regarding the social media threat that resulted in increased police presence at San Benito High School.
