In a continued attempt to bring notoriety to local businesses, the San Benito Chamber of Commerce is creating an entirely new event to showcase food options in the area. The first ever El Sabor de San Benito festival has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28 at the ABC event center.
Still in the early stages of planning, the committee in charge of the event is currently looking for participating vendors and sponsors for what will essentially be a restaurant showcase for the Resaca City.
“Our committee was looking for a way to highlight the wide range of restaurants we have here locally, and this is something that has been successful in other cities,” said San Benito Chamber of Commerce president Cathy Weaver. “We’re excited to give the public a taste of what they might be missing and really put a spotlight on what San Benito has to offer.”
According to Weaver, the Chamber hopes to get at least ten local eateries to attend the event, with each participating business offering a sample of their signature dish. Those in attendance will vote on their favorites and the winners will receive an award. Tickets are currently being sold to the public and are priced at $25 each.
Although this will be the first year for Sabor de San Benito, Weaver hopes for a strong enough showing from the public to make this the first of many.
“We have 200 tickets printed, and we hope to sell out early,” added Weaver. “The revenue from ticket sales will be used for the awards…We hope to have multiple awards.”
