As football season quickly approaches, the San Benito coaching staff has already been long at work for the upcoming season.

While most of the attention from the community this year will go to the varsity squad, coaches and trainers will have a different focus this coming weekend.

The annual War Dog Football Camp will be held from July 24-27 at Bobby Morrow Stadium and will run from 8-10 a.m. each day. The camp is for anyone who plans to play football at Riverside, Miller Jordan or Berta Cabaza, as well as any incoming freshman and is free of cost with all players needing to complete a waiver form.

“Our coaching staff is always looking to evaluate the next generation of Greyhound football players and this camp is usually where we get our first look at potential varsity contributors,” said SBCISD Athletic Coordinator Ram Partida. “Historically we’ve seen large numbers at this camp, and we don’t expect anything different this year.”

All three middle schools have developed solid football programs over the last few years with implementation of the War Dog camp being a major reason. The camp gives younger players the chance to experience high level coaching from both varsity coaches and players. In addition to the enhanced coaching, players are given a taste of the hard work that goes into playing football at the varsity level.
