Man arrested after stop

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on June 30, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s K9 Deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of FM 732 and S. Frontage in San Benito.

Upon making contact with the driver and passenger, the deputies noticed they were highly nervous and their behavior was odd.

Due to the behavior displayed by the driver and passenger, they were both ordered to step out of the vehicle for safety purposes.

According to a CCSO report, in the roadside interview, consent was given to the deputies and the vehicle was searched. After a search, no drugs were located but the passenger appeared visably nervous, read the report. After a thorough search, the passenger was ordered to take off his shoes and two bags with a white powdery substance were located. The passenger was identified as Omar Eduardo Cadena, 23-years-old.

Upon further investigation, the white powdery substance allegedly tested positive for cocaine and Cadena was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. In addition, the driver and the vehicle were released.
