San Benito High School (SBHS) Principal Marcus C. Ysasi has reportedly resigned as the high school’s head administrator effective July 10, 2023.

In an apparent resignation letter obtained by the San Benito News and apparently composed by Ysasi, the campus head acknowledged and thanked San Benito CISD Superintendent Theresa Servellon and the district for the opportunities provided to him and his family, adding that he will be taking a position at a Dallas-area school district.

“It is in the best interest of my family and me to relocate to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to pursue an educational environment that is conducive to progress, success, and stability,” the letter read.
The letter went on to tout the superintendent’s leadership, “Ms. Servellon, I appreciate the support you have given me during my time with the district. I have enjoyed working with you and the district administrative team. Ultimately, I am grateful to have been working under a superintendent who has the knowledge, experience, ability, and, most importantly, the courage to do what is needed for student success. You are truly a strong, confident, and capable leader in an environment that is full of uncertainty, chaos, and short sightedness. I am grateful for you.”

In mid-May of this year, San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) officials confirmed that the SBHS principal was placed on paid administrative leave for reasons that were never made clear. He was back at work soon after. The letter did not indicate if being placed on leave played a role in his recent decision to resign.

“As a matter of public interest, it is important to note that any/all personnel matters are guided by applicable District policies and procedures,” wrote Isabel C. González, SBCISD Director of Communications, in a statement to the media at the time Ysasi was placed on leave. “The District also ensures not only privacy for all employees but also a confidential, accurate, and thorough inquiry of any/all personnel matters.”
