San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) officials confirmed Tuesday morning that San Benito High School (SBHS) principal Marcus C. Ysasi was placed on paid administrative leave.
Details on the action are thin, including the reason why Ysasi, who was named SBHS Principal in Jan. of this year, was placed on paid leave.
“As a matter of public interest, it is important to note that any/all personnel matters are guided by applicable District policies and procedures,” wrote Isabel C. González, SBCISD Director of Communications, in a statement to the media. “The District also ensures not only privacy for all employees but also a confidential, accurate, and thorough inquiry of any/all personnel matters.”
She went on to add, “The District does not comment on personnel matters; therefore, no further comment will be made regarding Mr. Ysasi’s employment status.”
Ysasi’s paid leave comes on the heels of a similar action taken against San Benito Greyhound Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Dan Gomez in mid-April of this year. He was reinstated shortly after the knowledge of his leave went public.
Gomez, who has led the Greyhounds to a 63-28 record, which includes three visits to the Class 6A Regional Finals and has made the playoffs every season since 2016, enjoyed considerable support from the Greyhound fan base which expressed its displeasure of Gomez’s leave on social media, many calling for the removal sitting board members and administrators whom they accused of unfair treatment of Gomez.

In any case we do not know the reasons for this leave of absence. Let’s just let things unfold and see what happens.
