San Benito Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Dan Gomez returned to work this past Wednesday after approximately a week of being on paid administrative leave.

According to school officials, there was an investigation into allegations made against the longtime head coach, but Gomez ultimately was allowed back in his regular capacity within the school.

“I can confirm he will be back at work and his job is not at risk,” said SBCISD Board President Ramiro Moreno. “There were some allegations and we investigated, but he’s coming back and will be good to go…We appreciate what Coach Gomez has done for our school.”

The school district also released a statement confirming the return of Gomez to his post on Wednesday. “The San Benito Consolidated Independent School District is hereby confirming that Dan Gomez has been on paid administrative leave and will return to work tomorrow,” it stated.

“The District does not comment on personnel matters; therefore, no further comment will be made regarding Mr. Gomez’s suspension and/or employment status. As a matter of public interest, however, it is important to note that any/all personnel matters are guided by applicable District policies and procedures. The District also ensures not only privacy for all employees but also a confidential, accurate, and thorough inquiry of any/all personnel matters.”
