The City of San Benito’s Cultural Arts Department (CAD) presents Habitar Tierras Fronterizas (Living along the Border).
The opening reception for this new exhibition is March 2, 2023, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. The exhibition will run through April 21.
According to organizers, this showcase is a visual survey of female voices from the southern US/northern Mexico border region. The San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum is borrowing the exhibition from the Contemporary Art Museum of Tamaulipas in Matamoros. This international collaboration will also be an official part of the Mexican Consulate’s commemoration of the 200th year of US and Mexico’s diplomatic relations.
The exhibition includes a dynamic assortment of assemblage art, mixed media, new media, paintings, and prints, created by regional female artist community.
Participating artists include: Paloma Ayala (Matamoros), Brenda Bazan (Brownsville), Josie Del Castillo (Brownsville), Yareth Fernandez (Brownsville/ Austin), Veronica Gaona (Brownsville/ Houston), Angela Garcia (Matamoros), Nansi Guevara (Brownsville), Anylu Hinojosa (Reynosa), Elena Macias (McAllen), Laura Matus (Matamoros/Brownsville), Irma Nava (Reynosa), Andrea Perales (Matamoros/Oaxaca), Alejandra Zertuche (Brownsville).
