Arrest made in alleged threat

Local law enforcement agencies, as well as San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) officials confirmed on Wednesday that an arrest was made against an individual who allegedly made a threat against San Benito High School. That threat was posted on social media.

According to a statement by the San Benito Police Department (SBPD), on Tuesday, at approximately 5 p.m., the SBPD received information regarding a possible shooting threat against San Benito High School.
The post pictured a semi-automatic pistol and a knife and boasted about someone being ready “to go back to school.”

The suspect re-posted the images and added a caption that insinuated the weapons were going to be used at the San Benito High School on Wednesday during lunchtime. Patrolmen and detectives worked quickly to identify and locate the suspect, the SBPD’s statement read.

At approximately 9 p.m., the statement went on to read, the suspect, a 17-year-old male San Benito resident, was apprehended and charged with one count of False Alarm or Report, a state jail felony crime.

At this time, the statement read, there is no indication or information discovered during the investigation that would support the idea that a credible threat exists to any of the SBCISD campuses.
