San Benito CISD’s Curriculum Committee meeting on Tuesday began with its INICIOS Academies Schools of Choice presentations, where multiple schools presented the results of their INICIOS programs, including elementary schools Sullivan, Dr. Raul Garza STEAM Academy, and Ed Downs Fine Arts Academy.
Up next, the Board of Trustees delved into the recent cybersecurity incident in which a cybercriminal group gained unauthorized access to the District’s servers.
Executive Director of Student Support Leonilda Pena presented to the board, accompanied by Lynn Sessions, an attorney from the office of BakerHostetler in Houston, who works with school districts and other educational institutions through cyber security incidents.
Pena began by summarizing the incident and revealed that the unauthorized cybercriminals intermittently accessed the network from April 8 to October 10; however, they never were able to control the district’s system, otherwise, they could have held the district at ransom, she said.
