According to a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) statement, on January 9, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Southbound 77/Rancho Viejo area, on a sports motorcycle for an alleged speeding violation.
According to the statement, the driver of the motorcycle allegedly refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The motorcycle driver allegedly reached speeds of up to 120 mph, according to the CCSO.
He then took the Stillman Rd. exit, conducted a turn around, and accelerated northbound onto Expressway 77. The deputy disengaged for safety reasons, but was able to relay the description of the motorcycle to Cameron County Dispatch.
According to the CCSO’s statement, moments later, another deputy spotted the motorcycle on Northbound Expressway 77 by the San Benito rest area. As the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.
This time, the motorcycle driver reached speeds of over 120 mph, but moments later pulled to the side and came to a stop. The driver was identified as Jesse Salas, 28 years old.
