With just two games left before the start of a tough district schedule, the Lady ’Hounds basketball team seems to be peaking at just the right time.

San Benito will close out the calendar year with bouts against Edinburg High and PSJA before kicking off district play on Jan. 6; it already reached an impressive milestone following two more blowout victories last week.

Winners in nine of their last ten contests, including the last two by a combined score of 101-36, the Lady ’Hounds have already matched their win total from last season at 17. In addition to an extensive non-district schedule, San Benito has multiple tournament wins under their belt that contributed to their current 17-7 record.

In their last two games, against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln (3-8) and Mission High (8-9) respectively, the Lady ’Hounds high powered offense was on full display as they averaged more than 50 points per game in the two victories. As always, sophomore sensation Angelina Reyes was at the forefront of the scoring with a total of 34 points on 13-22 shooting, while also averaging five rebounds and four assists over the two-game span.

“(Angelina) has been fantastic for us all season and when she gets in a rhythm, our offense really takes off,” said Head Coach Abel Moreno Jr. “She’s young, but she’s played a lot of basketball for me, and it’s been great to see her continue to develop into a great player.”
