The women and men who served in the U.S. armed forces are honored each year on Veterans Day, and their transition back to civilian life can be an adjustment — especially when they head for college.
That is where Texas State Technical College Veteran Services steps in.
U.S. Air Force veteran Damaris Najera, who hails from San Benito, is a Veteran Services specialist at TSTC. She provides exceptional service for veterans who are ready to begin their college experience at TSTC.
“I ask each veteran, ‘Where do you want to be in five years?’” she said. “That person should have a plan that reflects what they want to achieve before they begin college at TSTC.”
Najera’s desire to help fellow veterans is based on her own college experience.
“I did not have this help when I attended college,” she said. “I don’t want a veteran to have that obstacle I faced. That’s why I focus on their future career.”
The San Benito resident said she began helping veterans after she moved to Florida.
