SB water and sewer rates could soon change

It has been years since the residents of San Benito noticed any increases in their water and sewer rates even though the cost of getting the utilities has been among the highest in the Rio Grande Valley.
That could soon change as the city council is trying to find a more equitable solution for the city’s home and business owners.

At stake is the issue that commercial businesses have been paying less than home owners in water and sewage usage and the council is now embarking on a plan to correct that.

Two meetings have been held lately in closed-door sessions to discuss the matter with city attorney Mark Sossie for a one-item agenda that called for “consultation with city attorney pursuant to Texas Government Code §551.071(2) pertaining to a Water Rate Ordinance.”

No action was taken at either of the meetings held this and last week.
