The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees will meet with Waterford School Services Inc. on Monday, Oct. 20 to discuss the qualifications of more than 40 applicants who are interested in the district’s superintendent position.

Board President Arnold Padilla said of the Oct. 20 date, “That’s the first day of Waterford producing the names of all of the applicants.”

Before that date, Waterford — the firm hired to conduct initial applicant reviews based on criteria set by the board — does not share names of the applicants with the board.

Waterford will break the applications down into groups of those who meet the criteria, those who may closely meet said criteria and those who may not meet it, but still show strong potential for the position.

This is where the board will have its own opportunity to review the applications.

The board will then set up the interview process with the applicants they find to be best-suited for the job.

There is no set number for interviewees, according to Padilla.

“We may want to only interview five, we may want to interview 15, we may want to interview 20 — we’re not sure,” said Padilla. “That’s what will be decided on that first date.”

The board will meet with the applicants later that week, a process, according to Padilla, that is still being worked out in order to fit all board members’ schedules.

“This is the process that we had in mind, so we’re on schedule,” explained the board president, “and I look forward to seeing the applicants.”

By Nov. 1, the board plans to have reduced the list to a smaller set of finalists and ultimately make a decision.

In Sept. Padilla said, “If everything goes well, and we believe it will, we should have someone selected by the first week of November, and possibly coming on board by the latter end of November to maybe … the first week of December.”
