We have learned in the last few weeks that God has perfect wisdom available for us. It is His desire to freely give us this perfect wisdom. We have also learned about the required attitude that one must have to receive anything from The Lord. We must have the honor and respect that is due His great name.

Now we must ask: what will our lives look like once we begin to allow this perfect wisdom in the Bible to have its place in our hearts? Should we be looking, living and responding differently to life?

“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist,” Luke 21:15 NKJV. What a great gift from God it is to have responses to life that will silence even those who might be against us in a particular situation! It’s not so much about winning the argument but answering in such a way that the best answer is given. I want this ability, don’t you?

“Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days,” Proverbs 19:20 NASB. In order for the wisdom of God to have any affect in our lives we have to be willing to listen to it. We also must be willing to accept the disciplines that come along with it.

This is not a foreign concept but rather it applies in other areas of life too. We listen to the counsel of all of kinds of people in our lives every day: talk show hosts on television and radio; news cast teams; messages in all kinds of music; counsel of teachers, parents, college professors, business leaders, coaches, friends and family members. Will we not stop long enough to hear and learn from the counsel of God offered in the Bible?

Proverbs 19:20 above also says we must be willing to accept discipline. This also is no foreign idea to us. We accept the disciplines of education, music, exercise, cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry and weight loss. There is also a need to accept not only the discipline of learning the wisdom found in the Bible but also accepting it when it begins to correct us. Why are we willing to allow all kinds of correction to come into our lives except Biblical correction? We must understand that the wisdom of God comes with Biblical correction.

“My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths,” Proverbs 3:1-6 NKJV.

Who doesn’t want “length of days, long life and peace added to you?” We will receive these when we accept the wisdom of God found in the Bible. Who doesn’t want “mercy and truth” to be a symbol of their life along with favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man? These are promised to those who accept the wisdom of God found in the Bible. Who doesn’t want the God of All Creation, All Power and All Might guiding their every step? I sure do! In order to have our steps guided we must: a) Trust in The Lord with all of our heart; b) Lean not on our own understanding; and c) In all our ways acknowledge Him.

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know,” Jeremiah 33:3 NKJ. How many more quick fix methods do we need to try for our lives to truly change? There is one thing that will change the course of life: reading the Bible and applying all the perfect wisdom contained in it. Will you begin to read the Bible today? The wisdom of God is awaiting you!
