San Benito High School freshman Nadya Moreno was recently awarded a Division 1 rating in Solo and Ensemble competition, a first for a female ninth grader in guitar competition at locals schools.

One can tell that Nadya J. Moreno is passionate for playing guitar, as she not only owns four of her own, but made history as the first female freshman in San Benito CISD’s history to earn a division 1 rating on guitar, enabling her to travel to the state level.

“I’m very honored and grateful that I received a 1, and am thankful to my instructors because they are very supportive,” said Moreno.

Albert Ortiz and Jorge Mascorro are the SBCISD guitar instructors Moreno is referring to, as they taught her the basics when she was in sixth grade. “When I first started, I was very nervous that I wasn’t going to pick it up, but Mr. Ortiz pushed me to practice more, and he moved me up to the advanced class with Mr. Mascorro.”.
