Victoria (Vicky) Johnson Aguirre passed away peacefully on February 17, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. Beloved wife of the late Eugenio (Gene) Lerma Aguirre.
The devoted mother of six children, Bill, David, Margaret (deceased), Rick, John and Dan. Adored grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 11 children.
As a young woman, Vicky worked as a proofreader for the Brownsville Herald. Upon marrying and moving to San Benito, she mastered the skill of shorthand and joined the Law Firm of Crane and Colvin as a legal stenographer. Vicky’s inherent thirst for learning compelled her to attend night classes at Texas Southmost College and many years later she completed her degree from Northeastern University in Chicago. After returning to Texas in 1971, she taught English at San Benito Junior High School. In the year 2000, she retired from the counseling department at the University of Texas.
Victoria was a direct descendant of Don Jose Narciso Cavazos, original grantee of the extensive San Juan de Carrecitos Spanish Land Grant in the year 1790.
A brilliant woman of great joyful spirit, Vicky will be missed by all that knew her.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Followed by burial at Mont Meta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
