The bottom of the ninth and bases are loaded. Families fill the stands cheering for their daughters, but a couple there is not cheering for any particular player. They are not there to show their pride for a daughter or granddaughter, but rather for the love of the sport.
After 26 years of employment with the San Benito school district and 13 years of retirement, Victor McCutchen, 70, discovered his fascination with high school softball last year.
McCutchen and his wife of 48 years, Linda Jean, have been enjoying the San Benito High School sport since they moved here, and the Lady Greyhounds’ softball games for roughly the past year and a half.
“We’ve watched Greyhound sports since we came in ‘71,” McCutchen said. “Purple and gold run through my veins. I will keep on following the Greyhounds as long as I can.”
