Thanks to an afterschool program, a young woman is en route to fulfilling her life-long dream of being a musician.
Rangerville resident Billieann Martinez, 18, is a senior at San Benito High School (SBHS). Growing up she always dreamed of playing guitar and singing.
“I’ve always had the interest in guitar,” Martinez said. “I asked my dad when I was younger but he said it was too big for me. In my freshman year, the (San Benito CISD) afterschool program lent me my first guitar.”
Since then, Martinez has been working to expound upon a future in music.
“I’ve been playing guitar since freshman year,” Martinez said. “I’m self taught.”
Martinez’s musical interests go beyond just strumming her guitar.
“I can play guitar and a little bit of piano,” she said. “My first performance was at my home church in Rangerville at age three. I sang a solo.”
