The San Benito Greyhound and Lady Greyhound wrestling teams saw their season come to an end this past weekend at the Regional Wrestling Tournament held in San Antonio, but not after capping off another incredible season.

Several individuals displayed a strong showing among some of the best in the state. The girls’ team, 2011 District 32-5A champs, finished 14th out of 48 teams at the event, which saw Alexandria Marmolejo finish with a 4-2 mark at the 95-pound class. That was good enough for a fifth place state alternative as she finished with a season record of 20-2.

Another fifth place state alternate was Anissa Abrego (185) who went 3-3 in the meet and finished with a season record of 9-4. Adriana Mancillas finished sixth place overall with a 2-2 record at the meet and she finished the year with a record of 21-7. Carla Mancillas (110) managed to win one of her three matches and finished with a season record of 13-10 and Lluvia Gamez (138) also qualified for the regional meet, where she dropped two in finishing the season with a personal record of 14-8.

On the boys’ side Allen Pope (103), Jonathan Herrera (112). Amano Vasquez, Greg Hernandez (215) and Joseph Ortega (285) came up short in their effort to advance to the next level. All had worked extremely hard to qualify for the regional meet.
