Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos announced Tuesday that Leticia Ines pled guilty to injury to a child, charges which stem from an alleged incident involving her daughter being locked in a closet for approximately a year and not being released unless to eat, use the restroom or attend school. BROWNSVILLE – A woman who was arrested January 20 in San Benito for allegedly locking her daughter in a closet for a year and only allowing her out to eat and attend school pled guilty to injury to a child, a state jail felony, in the 357th Judicial District Court, and received a year sentence in the state jail, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the office of Armando R. Villalobos, County and District Attorney for Cameron County.

Leticia Ines, 41, of Brownsville remains incarcerated at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito without bond; she was initially charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint.

“We are pleased with the outcome of this case,” Villalobos stated in the release. “The maximum punishment that Ines faced was up to two years and we feel comfortable with this plea agreement. She was not a proper candidate for probation, as she is currently homeless and jobless.”
