Gonzales vies for board

Celina Gonzales has entered the race as a candidate for the San Benito CISD School Board of Trustees, Place 6.

Gonzales, a mother, former educator, and experienced public servant with more than 20 years of service to the people of Cameron County, has a background in both education and local government.

In a press release, Gonzales notes that she has dedicated her career to strengthening communities, serving families, and leading with accountability, integrity, and compassion.

Gonzales, a graduate of the University of Texas at Brownsville with a Bachelor’s of Business in Accounting, is also a Texas Certified Public Manager.

Her experience as a teacher and coach provided firsthand insight into the needs of students, parents, and educators, and reinforced her belief that strong schools are the foundation of a strong community, she remarked.

Gonzales currently serves as City Manager for the City of Primera, overseeing key public services, including police, volunteer fire, emergency management, public works, finance, and budgeting.

She explained that her leadership in these critical areas has given her extensive experience managing people, services, and taxpayer resources responsibly, while making decisions that directly affect families and the community.

In her statement, she explains that she is running because she believes students deserve strong leadership, safe and supportive schools, and every opportunity to succeed.

Gonzales believes parents deserve a voice, teachers deserve respect and support, and taxpayers deserve accountability. According to her statement, she is running to bring proven leadership, sound judgment, and a heartfelt commitment to students, families, and San Benito CISD’s future.

She concluded by stating that her campaign message is “Students First.”
