SB takes part in tourney, performs admirably

San Benito High School athletes have performed admirably lately in various sports, with some having concluded their seasons and others just getting theirs started.

This appears to be the scenario for student-athletes in wrestling, powerlifting, softball, and track & field.

SOFTBALL

The San Benito Lady Greyhounds participated in the first tournament of their schedule at the annual PSJA Tournament, winning five games between Feb. 12-14.

They played at three PSJA high schools, defeating McAllen (4-2), PSJA North (5-0), Edcouch-Elsa (4-3), Sharyland Pioneer (10-3), and Rio Grande City (6-5).

They opened their season in Willacy County, defeating Raymondville, 16-0. Their home opener didn’t go as planned, but they avoided a shutout in an 11-2 loss.

The Lady ‘Hounds are in Portland and play through the weekend to participate in the annual Incarnate Word Academy Lady Angel Softball Classic. They play Del Valle (Amarillo), West Plains, and Santa Fe.

TRACK AND FIELD

Both the San Benito boys’ and girls’ track and field teams hosted the annual Bobby Morrow Relays and captured the team titles. Rio Hondo athletes also competed and are listed.
